Homemade Sugar Scrub

Homemade Sugar Scrub

One of my favorite DIY gifts (and ways to pamper myself) is homemade sugar scrub. It is incredibly simple to make and uses ingredients you’re likely to have on hand.  I love how smooth and wonderfully smelling it leaves my skin! Even Beach Girl enjoys using the “scratchy stuff” when she’s bathing in my tub.

Here’s my favorite sugar scrub recipe:

  • 1/4 cup white sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup coarse sea salt
  • 1/3-1/2 cup olive oil (depending on the consistency you prefer)
  • 6-8 drops essential oil

As far as the fragrance (which comes from the essential oil), you really do only need 6-8 drops.  A little goes a long way with essential oils.  When I first made this at my MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) group, we used peppermint or orange essential oils, but at home, I use lavender essential oil mixed with a little vanilla extract.

I find it easiest to mix the ingredients all together in a separate bowl, and then I store or gift it in a small mason jar.

Do you have any simple homemade gifts or favorite ways to pamper yourself?
